1. Personally, I agree with you and am, too, surprised to see ProBlogger win for best web dev. blog.

Since it's a daily read of mine, I have nothing against the site. But, the site really isn't a web dev. blog at all (it does have the occasional offshoot post about where and how to position something for better conversion).

I believe they should have a category for blogs about blogging and ProBlogger should have taken the ribbon for that category.

456 Berea Street would have been my choice for best web dev...just another blogger's opinion :).

2. I guess I had mixed reactions to the award myself. On one hand I was flattered (as anyone would be to win anything). As any blogger knows - PB takes a lot of work (more than any of my other blogs) and it's always nice to be acknowledged.

My initial reaction to being nominated in that category was one of surprise for the reasons you mention above. I didn't really consider my self into 'web dev' - in fact I'm one of the less tech savvy guys you'll meet and felt out of my league.

On the other hand I do write PB with the goal of helping bloggers improve their blogs and blogs are websites. Granted I don't do it by tackling lots of technical topics - but the overall theme of the blog is to report news and give tips on improving blogs. I guess I see it as targetting one small niche within the wider web development niche - which is why I didn't decline the nomination. I also couldn't see a category that it fit better into so left it at that.

Being up against the blogs I was I didn't expect to win and was surprised to see the results.

6. I can't remember seeing the nominations for these awards, but this is total crap. I just looked at the first award for best application be awarded to blogger and closed the window after that. Blogger has dont *nothing* in 2 or more years while sites and apps like Wordpress have taken the market in a storm!

7. have to say that I agree with Cosmo - I almost fell off my chair when I saw Blogger won best blog application. I guess it shows something about:

1. who votes in these awards. Must be a pretty entry level kind of crowd

2. that while a lot of us are aware of the benefits of other blog apps the vast majority of bloggers still using pretty basic stuff (blogger.com, myspace etc). I don't get it - but it's the way things are.

Not sure we can completely dismiss the whole awards just because of one result - but it keeps things in perspective a little on who might be voting.

8. It was SOS recycled. These vanity votes, driven by traffic from the contending sites, are a poor way to recognize all that is new and innovative in the sphere.

How about a juried award with site driven votes accounting for a small fraction of the total?

The awards should be more than a way for the host to drive traffic to his site by skewing the rules to bring in hard hit site suporters.

9. But we cant say that blogger has done nothin in last 2 years. Yes it is right that wordpress is taking over it.

But Today also when a user want to make a blog the nhe will choose blogger first.
